Hazelwood is a big neighborhood in East Portland bordered by Parkrose Heights, Woodland Park, and Russell to the north, Montavilla to the west, Mill Park, and Powellhurst Gilbert to the south and Wilkes, Glenfair and Centennial to the east. Hazelwood has many tree lined residential streets and offers a mix of residential and commercial areas. It is where Adventist Hospital is located that employs the most people in the neighborhood. You also have Glendoveer Golf Course in the neighborhood.
Hazelwood neighborhood is known to have some safety issues. The neighborhood has high crimes and a lot of auto accidents. According to golocalpdx, Hazelwood had 1,000 more calls for police due to serious and violent crime than were made in Downtown Portland over the last five years. Improvements are being made slowly, however, the neighborhood is still undergoing some roughness. Housing here is extremely affordable on the other side and the neighborhood has access to MAX stations.
