Wilkes is a neighborhood in the northeast corner of East Portland bordered by Argay and Russell to the west, Glenfair to the south, Gresham to the east, and the Columbia River to the north. The neighborhood stretches from the river past I-84 to NE Glisan St on the southern boundary. The area north of I-84 is between NE 148th Ave to NE 185th Dr from west to east and the area south of I-84 is between NE 142nd Ave and NE 162nd Ave. The southwest portion of the neighborhood is adjacent to Glendoveer Golf Course. Wilkes neighborhood has a small park just south of NE Sandy Blvd in the northern part of the neighborhood named Wilkes City Park.
Wilkes neighborhood, similar to Argay neighborhood provides an easy access to Portland International Airport without the burden of heavy traffic in the neighborhood. Residential areas are south of NE Sandy Blvd and the most of the southern part of the neighborhood south of I-84. The neighborhood is a suburb and the lifestyle is very suburban. You will be able to find bigger homes for much cheaper on big lots than inner Portland neighborhoods. Crime rates are not that bad in this neighborhood either. You won’t find that much exciting entertainment in this neighborhood but you can always drive out to other areas.
