Eliot is a neighborhood in Northeast Portland along the Willamette River, right across the bridge from Pearl District. It is bordered by Irvington to the east, Boise to the north and Lloyd to the south. Although irregularly shaped, this neighborhood is located between NE Broadway St and NE Fremont St from south to north and its eastern border lies on NE 7th Ave. Eliot is an urban neighborhood with lots of condos and apartments that enjoy a very easy access to Downtown Portland and Pearl District. MAX station is less than a mile away from Eliots southernmost boundary at Lloyd Center Mall. Many Eliot residents simply bicycle or walk across the NW Broadway Bridge to go to work in Pearl District or Downtown Portland. It simply doesn’t get any better when it comes to commuting from Northeast Portland while not paying arms and legs to live in Pearl District.
Eliot neighborhood is an attractive urban neighborhood where commercial redevelopment has been taking place. There are also residential areas that are quiet and livable. Many residential buildings are multi-family homes and mix of residential and commercial use. Neighbors here are very attentive to the commercial development process because its residents want to preserve positive and residential aspects of the neighborhood while the inevitable influx of commercial development is rushing into the neighborhood due to its location.
In Eliot neighborhood, you can see some older charming homes including Old Portland and Victorian cottage homes. There are also parks in this neighborhood including Lillis Albina City Park and Dawson Park near Legacy Emanuel Medical Center. The medical center is a big presence in Eliot neighborhood taking up around 8 blocks from N Kerby Ave and N Vancouver Ave. Many restaurants and bars are located on NE Fremont St, its northern border, and N Williams Ave. Two popular breweries include Ex Novo Brewing Company and Widmer Brother Brewing in Eliot neighborhood. Beam & Anchor is another famous establishment in this neighborhood on Interstate Avenue by an industrial area along the river, selling artisanal and rustic jewelry, candles, soaps, furniture and home decor.
