Overlook is a neighborhood in North Portland located at the southernmost tip of NoPo bordered by University Park to the northwest, Arbor Lodge directly to the north, Humboldt and Boise to the east, and Eliot to the south. Overlook neighborhood abuts the Willamette River and its southern portion of the neighborhood is directly across from Northwest District near Pearl District in the downtown area. This neighborhood is adjacent to I-5 north on its eastern border and I-405 Bridge on its southern border. The neighborhood goes up north bordered by N Ainsworth St and N Willamette Blvd. On the northern port of the neighborhood along the river is Swan Island Basin, an industrial ship yard. Swan Island used to be the site for Portland’s first airport, Swan Island Municipal Airport, which operated until the early 1940s when the island was converted to naval shipbuilding use for World War II as one of the Kaiser Shipyards.
Residents of Overlook really enjoy Overlook Park, which is a peaceful park overlooking Downtown Portland and the Willamette River through the industrial area and you can see the West Hills and beautiful sunsets on summer evenings. The park provides running trails, playgrounds, and picnic areas. There are also some nice houses nearby Overlook Park. Ones on N Melrose Dr have the most amazing views of the city and the river. There are also a few other parks in the neighborhood including Madrona City Park and Mocks Crest Property, both of which offer great views of the city.
Living in Overlook neighborhood, you will have a plenty of fun checking out restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, and more locally-owned stores. Most of them are on North Interstate Ave and North Killingsworth Street. Interstate Farmers Market at 3500 N Interstate near Overlook Park on Wednesdays also provides lots of fresh produce and neighborhood fun.
Overlook has quickly become a popular neighborhood in North Portland. Its housing prices are rising fast but still reasonable. The neighborhood offers great views of the city, parks, and locally owned bars and restaurants. Moreover, Overlook has an easy access to Downtown Portland and to other neighborhoods via driving or by MAX train.
