Richmond is a neighborhood in Southeast Portland bordering Sunnyside on the north, Mt. Tabor and South Tabor on the east, Creston-Kenilworth on the south, and Hosford-Abernethy on the west. Richmond is between SE 29th Ave to SE 52nd Ave from SE Hawthorne Blvd to SE Powell Blvd.
Richmond is a very popular neighborhood for its culinary establishments on SE Division St. Pok Pok is a famous northern Thai restaurant, Andy Ricker’s original establishment that now has locations in Brooklyn, NY and Los Angeles. Along Division, you will find other notable eateries such as Roe, the American Local, Bollywood Theater, Sunshine Tavern, the Woodsman Tavern, Kim Jong Grillin’, and Whiskey Soda Lounge (also owned by Pok Pok). Down the street on Division into Hosford-Abernethy is Tidbit Food Carts Pod where you can get some good foods for cheap such as spicy tonkotsu ramen at Hapa PDX Ramen. There is also a ton of bars and restaurants on SE Hawthorne Blvd, the neighborhood’s northern border.
Richmond neighborhood’s characteristics vary greatly by which area you are in. On Hawthorne, which is part of the Hawthorne District, you get the trendy and funky feel of the neighborhood. On Powell, it feels more like a suburb sprawl with strip malls and big box stores. On Division, you will see some really nice modern condos with amazing restaurants nearby. There is a whole lot of coolness on Division. Then there are the residential areas where some are gorgeous older homes on tree-lined streets such as Clinton St. Home prices in Richmond neighborhood tends to be more expensive than other SE neighborhoods due to the desirability of its location. Typical residential architectural styles include craftsman bungalows, cottages and English tudor style homes throughout the neighborhood. Many residents here include families and singles in their 20’s to 40’s.
