Which neighborhood is the safest and the most dangerous in Portland, OR?  The type of crime relevant to home buyers would be burglary so I put together the above tables for the top 10 safest and the most dangerous neighborhoods in Portland.  As you notice, some neighborhoods that made the top 10 most dangerous list are not necessarily bad or poor neighborhoods but their urban location is the major contributing factor.  Generally, neighborhoods that are east of the river tend to be greater targets for burglary than neighborhoods west of the river.  The top 10 safest neighborhoods from burglary are all located west of the river according to the table above.  Most of them are in Southwest Portland.

There are also safer neighborhoods east of the river compared to other Southeast, Northeast, North and East Portland neighborhoods.  Alameda made #1 safest neighborhood east of the river.  Alameda is a wealthy neighborhood in NE Portland.  Other wealthy neighborhoods east of the river did not receive that high of a score.  For example, Laurelhurst and Irvington both received 0.75% for likelihood percentage and Eastmoreland received 0.77%.

Pleasant Valley made the top 6 safest neighborhood east of the river even though the neighborhood is located east of 82nd Ave.  Pleasant Valley does seem like an exception when it comes to neighborhoods in East Portland due to its close proximity to Happy Valley and parks.  Much of Pleasant Valley is also removed from the urban flat land as many parts of it is rural and located in forested hills.  For other neighborhoods east of 82nd, ones north of SE Powell Blvd. (Hwy 26) seem to have a lot more criminal activities than the ones south of Powell.  Powellhurst-Gilbert and Lents both scored 0.59% and 0.84% respectively whereas Contennial and Hazelwood scored 1.81% and 0.97%.

Three neighborhoods on the northern border of Portland abutting Columbia River made the top 10 most dangerous list including Sunderland, East Columbia, and Sumner.  Cully was relatively safe scoring 0.53%.  Wilkes also scored relatively safe at 0.54% whereas Park Rose scored 0.94%.  St. Johns and Kenton from North Portland scored 0.88% and 0.61% respectively.
